Raga Darbari - an in-depth study HV915

Prerequisites

The student has completed HV305 at the academy OR the student has learnt Chhota Khayal in about 25 Ragas with Swar Vistar, Aalap and Taan. The student is able to sing Bada Khayals with Aalap and Taan in Yaman, Bhairav, Bhupali, Bihag, Bageshri, Malkauns, Jaijaivanti, Bhimpalasi


Overview

The Raga deep dive courses are aimed at internalising Raga concepts. In this Raga Deep dive course Raga Darbari is explored. Darbari as the name suggests is a majestic Raga. This Raga is sung in the night. Darbari, also known as Darbari Kaanada is a Kaanada Ang Raga. The Raga is explored in The Mandra, Madhya and Taar Saptaks with a deep understanding of the Raga Chalan, the characteristic Swar Samoohas and the Gamaks. Paltas and a variety of Taan patterns are practised to perfection in Drut Laya, in this Gambhir Prakriti Raga.
