Prerequisites

The student needs to complete HV105 from the academy OR the student should be able to: 

  • Sing stable notes perfectly in tune with the Tanpura 
  • Sing Swar Vistar with clarity of understanding in the Raga structure 
  • Sing Chhota Khayal with self-created Aalap and Taan in Bhupali, Durga, Sarang, Khamaj
  • Sing a Trivat and a Dhrupad
  • Compose a Sargam Geet and a Raga based tune for given lyrics and present them
  • Listen to a musical sound and identify Shudh, Komal and Tivra Swaras Read notations and also do Swara mapping at a basic level


Overview

In this course the creative elements of Chhota Khayal are dealt with a deeper understanding of the Taal. The principles and guidelines to create Swar Vistar are reinforced. Aalap, BolAalap and Taan are practised to perform with confidence within the Teentaal structure. The Raga characteristics are detailed out by composing a Lakshan Geet. Compare and contrast of Ragas gives a deeper insight into the Ragaroop.

The effect and placement of Tivra Madhyam is understood in Raga Yaman. Raga Khamaj is reviewed with Swar Vistar. A Tarana and a Bhajan is sung in Raga Khamaj. The OM book has got multiple Bandishes in each Raga, in order to facilitate learning as well as provide relevant listening material to the learner.

 

Swara Sadhana, a part of the continuous learning is included in this course with focus on Mandra-Swara Sadhana to strengthen the voice and improve one's range of voice.
